A Word from the Head

Hurst Lodge is a small day and boarding school located in Ascot, with girls aged 3 - 18 and boys up to 7+. Girls may be flexi or weekly boarders from 7 - 18.

At Hurst Lodge we recognise that each pupil has unique qualities which they bring to us and which it is our jobs to assist them maximise. Each pupil is encouraged to have a sense of their own worth, respect others and take a full part in the academic, cultural and social life of the school.

Performance is both an area in which we specialise and a useful analogy for the way Hurst Lodge works. We recognise that for any production to succeed the leading players are but one component of a varied production process, involving many people with a variety of skills. This extends to all curricular and non-curricular activities within the school. Everyone has something to contribute and the final result is built on team work and co-operation.

All pupils study a rich and varied curriculum with a team of enthusiastic and professional teachers. Small teaching groups allow individual attention, enabling pupils to maximise their potential and self confidence. This is further supported by a wide variety of optional classes which continue into the evening.

The Junior School provides strong numeracy and language skills. Most Junior students will enter the Senior School at 11+ after a placement test. Students from other schools may enter the Senior School by interview and placement test. Children spend a day at Hurst Lodge in order to be assessed, before a place is offered. Children from abroad may be accepted on the strength of their last school report. Scholarships and bursaries are available at 11+, 13+ and 16+ for academic, performance arts or creative artistic excellence.

We have a team of teachers trained in SpLD, especially dyslexia. Where needed, pupils receive tuition on an individual basis, in addition to attending mainstream classes.

Our most recent GCSE results continued the trend of strong academic success. Our girls took an average of 8 subjects, with some taking as many as 12. We have 100% success rate at A level.
